Set up in 2006 the Fleming Energy Company is specifically focusing on the development of renewable energy as part of the Fleming Group’s continued growth and diversification strategy. The Fleming Group was one of the first entrants into the renewable energy business in Ireland with the development of a 5MW windfarm in Kilronan, Co. Roscommon in the early 90’s.
The Fleming Energy Company is focusing on three key sectors within the renewable energy business which will form the cornerstone of its growth and expansion plans in the coming years. Wind energy will continue to be an integral part of its business with Fleming Energy also currently involved in the development of a 108 MW windfarm in the western region of Hungary. This is expected to be one of the first larger scale windfarms to come into operation in this country.
Fleming Energy will continue to develop projects in Ireland but it is also targeting other regions including the US and China.
Biofuels will also provide a significant portion of our renewable energy portfolio of projects with a key focus on the production of bio ethanol. The biofuels industry is currently going through rapid expansion and development across the globe providing a clean alternative fuel source to petrol, diesel and gas. Governments in all countries are implementing policies to enable this development thereby helping to cut carbon emissions and provide an indigenous source of fuel in their respective countries.
The third component of the Fleming Energy business will be ocean energy where it is currently assessing a number of opportunities in the development of this sector in Ireland. With 2/3’s of the worlds surface area under water the ocean offers tremendous potential in the development of both tidal and wave energy. Fleming energy is currently evaluating the technology options to deliver on this potential as this will provide the greatest challenge to developing this sector.
