Waste Management Policy
John Fleming Construction Ltd endeavours to maintain the highest environmental standards in all of its activities. In line with the group’s approach the construction division is committed to complying with environmental legislation, preventing pollution and continual improvement.
We are fully aware as, a company of the advantages of minimising our waste output not least of these are the safety and financial gains. Therefore the company will continually strive to reduce our percentage in waste output in line with the Waste Management Changing our Ways document 1/10/1998. This means a recycling of 50% of construction and demolition waste over five year with an increase to at least 85% over fifteen years. These figures can be achieved by adopting the following procedures.
- Wherever possible use environmentally considerate methods and materials to fulfil our contractual obligations.
- Design for the efficient use of materials and energy and where a choice exists specify only these construction materials which are environmentally benign and naturally sustainable.
- Consistently seek to increase the awareness of all our employees and subcontractors of our aim to conserve and where possible recycle all waste materials. This is achieved by segregation at source provision of lay down areas for specific wastes, such as building rubble, timber, glass & plastic.
- All domestic waste to be deposited in a closed skip and removed as necessary.
To facilitate the implementation of this policy the company shall establish a waste management procedure for each site, which will be included in the Safety & Health Plan and will be brought to the attention of all on site.
The company are currently researching new methods of reusing and recycling waste on the site, this is being carried out in partnership with some of the major waste removal recycling divisions in the region.
